Het zal omstreeks 1912 geweest zijn dat Mr Brants van het kasteel de Wildenborch een paar jongens achterop kwam met zijn rijtuig die in de regen vanaf hun school in Vorden naar huis liepen. Herman Eggink was één van hen. Ze mochten meerijden. Dhr Brands besefte toen dat een school een groot gemis was in de omgeving van de Wildenborch en zette zich er voor in dat er hier een school zou komen. Dit is de eerste school die er kwam, ergens achter bakker Oplaat.
