De Boomgaard, painted in 1946.
It wasn’t finished at his birthday on the 19th of april this year. It was a lot of work for Jos and Margo to make from the Boomgaard their own home.
When we moved to the Boomgaard in 1950 as mama and pa got married, it was a farmhouse with a lot of small rooms. In the kitchen was a large stove and a small round pot-bellied stove with a long pipe into the chimney, tiles on the floor and a coco-mat which had to be cleaned and knocked.
At the time I left home for Hattem in 1962 the first make over was a fact. A few walls were put down and a beautiful large room was made in the front of the house, we ’d got a real bathroom and a w.c, while before our closet was on that part of the farm where the cows used to be in winter. It had a long gangway and a wooden closet with a hole in it with a wooden cover. There always were some harvest spiders on the wall. Huhhhh…!
The Boomgaard had also more residents than nowadays. Opoe and opa Bijenhof moved with mama and us to the Boomgaard. Later on Henk and Johan were born. We had a maid for day and night, and we used to have a farmhand as well who had dinner with us, both from our neighbourhood. It was very cosy.
In 1979 Johan and Joke made de Boomgaard to their lovely home, very peaceful, but together with Jos and Joanne the number of inhabitants stayed at four.
Now it’s Jos and Margo’s turn to make it to their home. Yesterday we’ve got the announcement that:
Jos Eggink and Margo Lanters are settled on De Boomgaard. Lieferinkweg 4, 7251 NV Vorden.
There’s changed a lot during the last 60 years and I doubt it will be as busy at their dinner table as it was in the fifties.
We all wish Jos and Margo good luck on that beautiful spot.
